Teachers Ignite Educational Passion Bookmark and Share Bookmark and Share

Teachers really do ignite the educational passion in our children. It is a mission that they must take very seriously if they intend to make a difference in a child’s life. The teacher’s mission is not an easy one. It is a road lined with success and failure. There are many that teach in the system. It is a common fact that they are under paid for the work that they do. We place such responsibility upon them. What is more essential than the education of our children, guardians of the next generation? We send our children to school and expect them to excel and become masters of their educational domain. We place this responsibility confidently on those that lead our classrooms. We expect miracles and quite often they deliver them for us. Teachers are special human beings. Not all, but some, have that gifted ability to reach into the heart and mind of a child, and ignite a passion for learning that will guide them for the remainder of their lives.

We all have that one special teacher from our youth that seemed to inspire us like no other. That teacher that not only spoke but also listened. The teacher that gave you the desire to strive for all that was obtainable. This teacher may have talked from the front of the class, but it always seemed like they were talking directly to you. They cared about your future and they pushed you to achieve all that was in your heart to pursue. They presented you with challenges and opened the door for you to confront them. They did so only to make you stronger. Teaching requires great patience. It cannot be a successful endeavor without determination and focus above and beyond the norm. Most of all, a teacher has to care and be able to gain a child’s trust and respect. Trust me, a teacher’s job is not easy. Further more, it may be one of the most vital professions in the world. The lessons that a teacher passes on must with stand the test of time. It is their job to mold the leaders of tomorrow. That is a heavy burden to carry.

As parents we must remember, that this burden should not be shouldered entirely by teachers. Parents have a major responsibility as well. Learning should begin in the home. Discipline must be given birth there. Children must be pushed to learn at home. They must be held accountable at home just as in school. Parents have the gift to empower their children with hope and motivation. If parents do their job at home, it makes success at school much easier. Teachers must achieve gratification for their hard work based on the success of their students. It is never too late to show our appreciation for our teachers. We can employ upon them our heart felt thanks for the services that they provide for our children. Many people like myself deliver our appreciation in the form of poetry. We empty our hearts and souls to bear witness to the admiration that we hold for those that ignite educational passion into our youth. You have the opportunity to share in the fruits of our appreciation. Explore our poetry and perhaps it will bring back memories of that special teacher that once inspired you.

Principals Are Human Too Bookmark and Share Bookmark and Share

When we think about Principals, we tend to remember the person who dished out the ultimate discipline when we were in school. The Principal was always roaming the halls trying to find someone skipping class or smoking in the boys room. If you had to go see the Principal, you were in trouble. Once you had arrived at that point, you had crossed that imaginary line of no return. That long walk to the Principals office. No student really wanted to be in that position. Anyone who has experienced corporal punishment, a good paddling from a Principal, knows what I mean. Or worse, being suspended, which resulted in even more trouble at home. The Principal held the power. They held the sword of responsibility and could swing it as they saw fit. The Principals were the scariest person in school.

Of course, that is just how we remember it back then. As you grow older and your school years have long since passed you by, you begin to appreciate those who held authority over you. You begin to realize that their mission was not an easy one. A Principal was responsible for your safety and the safety of all the students in the school. It was their job to offer discipline that would teach you a lesson, in the hopes that you would not make the same mistake again. Principals were not simply policemen in disguise, they were human beings who had dedicated their lives to administering education to the best of their ability. Their only reward, The success of their students. In many cases, Principals do not get the appreciation that they deserve. At least not from the students that they watch over. Let us change this misconception.

As a student you must remember, that a Principal is there for you. A Principal is not the enemy, but a role model that you can depend on and turn to for assistance. A Principal has to wear many hat's. They have to be able to listen to your problems and offer answers to correct them. They have to ensure that your teacher's are doing their jobs to assist you as well. Understand that Principals were once teacher's as well. The Principals lessons have to go beyond the class room. They have to assist you as you prepare yourself for future educational activities. Principals are not monsters. They are Mother's and Father's, Brother's and Sister's. They are Grand parents and good friends. Principals are not there to hurt you, but rather offer you the help that you need to succeed. The next time you pass your Principal in the hall, remember what you have learned. Principals are human too.

Thank You: To My Parents Bookmark and Share Bookmark and Share

Life leaves us being very thankful for so many things. I am thankful for my family and friends just like anyone else. I have always said that the most important thing in life is family. When you have reached the end of the road it will be your family that is by your side. All of the material accomplishments will fall to the wayside. You cannot take the wealth with you and your family would much rather have you than the wealth. Perhaps I am a dreamer. I may see life as I wish it to be rather than the way it is. I am thankful that I have the ability to feel in my heart that the world can be a better place.

When I look back at life I am especially thankful for my Parents. My Mother and Father who brought me into this world and gave me a fighting chance to succeed in it. They were always prepared to deliver love and support to the sibling that needed it most. They spread their love around; they had too with a family of 9 children. Some say that their parents took care of them because they had too. I do not agree. In this day and age many parents have abandoned their children. Most parents take care of their children because that is what they do. You love your off spring and it is your natural reaction to provide for them.

I thank my parents for teaching me right from wrong. I did not always listen unfortunately but they taught me right. I thank them for providing guidance and a sense of direction. I did not come from a wealthy family. My parents had to struggle to provide for us. My dad had to work a job that took him away from home a lot in order to give us the basics in life. What we lacked in material items we made up for in love. We had each other. It sustained us when life was at its lowest point. We learned to support each other and to always be prepared to offer a helping hand. We grew to appreciate what we had.

Our Mother and Father instilled in us great values and a sense of pride. They taught us to be proud of ourselves not for what we always achieved but for how we tried to achieve it. They offered us hope and faith. They tried hard to give us the things we needed to grow into well-balanced adults. I know in my heart that they gave it all they had. They believed in all of us and we in them. Perhaps they left us thinking they had failed in their ability to provide what we needed. This was not the case. They gave us their hearts and souls and I could ask for nothing more. Thank You Mom and Dad for giving me so much of yourselves.

Thanks For Being There Bookmark and Share Bookmark and Share

The journey of life can be very complicated. We spend so much time jumping through rings and trying to get over obstacles that we often do not take the time to reflect on the things that we are thankful for. As I look back I find myself thankful for many things. I am thankful for my health and the opportunities that I have been given. First and foremost I am thankful for my family. When the journey of life is winding towards its end you begin to understand that the only thing in life you really have is family. The love and support of a family unit is the foundation on which our existence progresses. I want to thank one particular family member today.

The person I want to talk to you about is my sister-in-law Kelly. About two years ago my Mother was suffering from a terminal illness. It was her decision to depart this life from her own home, from her own bedroom. It was her desire to be with her family in a loving atmosphere when she passed on. All of us were inspired by her love for us. Inspired by her strength and her faith. Although she tried to be strong she went through a rough time. Kelly was employed in a medical related field. She worked in a home for the elderly and had experience that would prove invaluable during the final days of our Mothers life.

Kelly would come in my Mothers bedroom and do many things that would bring her comfort and confidence. Kelly had known the departure of many elderly where she worked but this was different. This was personal. Our Mother was assigned a nurse for the final stage of her life. But Kelly was family. Kelly gave our Mother what no stranger could ever give. She gave her love and support that only a loved one can deliver. She truly made our Mother more comfortable than she might have been. Perhaps Kelly saw her assistance as trivial. But this was not the case.

I was with our Mother for the last 12 hours of her life. I felt compelled to be with her. I just wanted her to know that I was there. Kelly would often come in and check on her. One time after she had gone, my Mother told me how helpful Kelly had been to her. How happy she was that Kelly had been there. She expressed those feelings through the pain and agony that she suffered. I knew it was from her heart. It was at that moment that I realized how thankful I was to have Kelly there as well. As long as I am able to reflect back upon that time I will always be thankful that she was there.

Thanks For The Memories Bookmark and Share Bookmark and Share

A very famous comedian Bob Hope used to end his show with the tune “Thanks for the Memories’. Bob Hope was one of the greatest entertainers of our time. His sense of humor and kindness towards his fellow man touched all of us. He is gone now but his memory lives on in the reflection of the life that he lived. Like Bob Hope I too am so thankful for the memories that I have gathered over the decades of my life. As we travel the journey of life many special moments are captured and planted in the gardens of our minds. It is these memories that provide us warmth, comfort and support when the days are darkest in our existence.

As we grow older we begin to value the moments in which we live. We are somehow given the sudden gift to understand and acknowledge that live is short and that strong memories are all that sustain us. As we go through life we plant various memories in our minds. There are memories of special moments, bonds and relationships that have been established. The bonds that have been created with our families and friends over the years are the ones that seem to rise to the top. The memories of our parents, siblings, grand parents and school friends form a never-ending slide show in our minds.

While we are young we do not depend on these memories so much. We are too busy making them to stop and appreciate them. However, as the years pass by we begin to revisit those memories more and more often. They are vivid reminders of all that we have been through and accomplished as human beings. When we are confronted by the loss of a loved one we try to find solace in our memories of them. It is those memories that seem to console us and allow us to try to heal the pain and sadness. As our children grow and move away to pursue their own lives it is our memories of them growing up that sustain us and make us smile.

There is a sports saying that states ‘its not rather you win or lose, its how you play the game’. This applies to life as well. We all know how the story ends. But it is how we lived that counts. The memories that we have made, the moments that we have lived define us as people. I am so thankful for the memories I have managed to save. The ability to reflect and examine those memories allows us to learn from our errors. I am thankful for the family and friends that have shared it all with me. I look forward to creating many more memories with them. To all of them I say “Thanks for the Memories”.
